Astragalus is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for a variety of ailments and functions. It is traditionally valued for supporting the heart and healthy immune functions. It is known to stimulate the spleen, liver, lungs and circulatory and urinary systems. It has also been used to treat arthritis, asthma and nervous conditions as well as to lower blood sugar and pressure. 

Astragalus is typically prepared as tea or encapsulated. The powder may be sprinkled on food or whipped into a shake or smoothie.
